Coaches & Instructors

This role is for individuals with a solid understanding of chess fundamentals and the ability to communicate ideas clearly. Coaching requires structure, patience, and the ability to guide players through positions—not just play strong moves.

Expectations:

• Ability to explain concepts clearly at different skill levels
• Strong understanding of chess fundamentals through competitive play or consistent study
• Comfortable leading small groups or individual sessions
• Able to structure a focused 60-minute lesson
• Reliable and consistent with scheduling

​Note This is not a casual teaching role coaches are expected to come prepared and lead structured sessions.
​Compensation:
Opportunities vary based on experience, session type, and program structure. Opportunities to grow with structured programs as demand increases.

​TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS (TDs)

This role is for individuals who can run organized, on-time events without supervision. You should understand tournament flow, be comfortable making decisions, and maintain control of the playing environment.
​
Expectations:

• USCF TD certified (or willing to get certified)
• Comfortable running 3–4 round events independently
• Experience with pairing software (williness to learn)
• Able to manage results, pairings, and timing accurately
• Confident handling basic disputes and questions

Note This role requires the ability to run events independently and maintain control of tournament flow.

Compensation:
$40–$80 per event depending on role

​EVENT VOLUNTEERS

​This role is for reliable individuals who can assist with event operations and follow direction. Tasks are straightforward, but require consistency and attention to detail.

​Expectations:

• Able to follow instructions and stay engaged during events
• Comfortable interacting with players and parents
• Willing to assist with setup, check-in, and flow
• Reliable and on time for scheduled events
• Able to help reset and maintain the playing area

Note Reliability and consistency are required this role depends on showing up and staying engaged.​

Compensation:
Free event entry and occasional stipends depending on the event.
